SUMMER TRENDS
When I think about the summer and what people wear on the streets of NYC, bright colors and floral come to mind. But I always wanted to know if summer trends actually change. I feel as though for the most part, there’s a rule that all fashionistas abide to, which is wearing bright colored clothing, fun jewelry and accessories and florals during the months of May-July. I have been a victim of this too, which is partially why I love summer.
After doing some research, I realized that bright colors and florals are here to stay for summer 2013. I am not complaining because I think those factors are the signature looks for the warm weather. However,in order to take more risks, I think people can incorporate other trends may or may not die off by next summer.
Some of which include:
- statement stripes/ prints
- color block dresses/rompers
- tie dye tops/bottoms (see above photo: I am obsessed with that dress by the way!)
- fringes/ruffles
Even for me, some seem a bit bold and out of my comfort zone, but summer is the time to explore and dress in a different style other than what’s in your closet. I encourage all of you to borrow your girlfriends’ clothing that fit those trends or go out and buy one or two items that fit those descriptions. Even if it doesn’t work for you, you can say that you’ve tried and with all the new DIY tutorials online, I’m sure you can always transform an unwanted item to a fabulous one!
Let me know what other trends you find this summer and let me know what you tend to wear during the hot, beautiful weather.

Best Summer Fashion Campaign Ad
I love advertisements and commercials (to a certain extent)! I love the creative aspect about them, the way companies use their campaigns to tell a story, convey a message, and evoke a feeling. Yes, I understand that usually their main intention is to convince and persuade viewers to buy a certain product, but I still think it’s highly important to have good fashion campaign because it can only help boost a brand’s reputation.
The video here is Prada Spring/Summer Women’s Advertising Campaign and I think it is brilliant! It is unique in a sense that the company took a different approach by giving ten women different personalities. The sound effects and the voiceover pulls you in and as a viewer, you become drawn to each and every one of them. By using different outfits to match the models’ looks and personalities, Prada is essentially creating a versatile brand for themselves, showing us that there is not one Prada ideal women, but as many as ten.
I think the video combines the factors of art and creativity with style and fashion, which makes it stand out from the other fashion summer campaigns. If I were the creative director for any fashion brand, I would advise to do something different, whether it’s going to the extremes or going out of the brand’s comfort zone. The only thing to remember is stay true to the brand’s overall mission and image, but it never hurts to try a different approach to campaign ads rather than have flawless faces model products.
Prada took a risk as it always does. The name itself never fails to amaze me and successfully execute its creativity.
I want a story that is creative, intriguing and entertaining. This Prada ad gave me that.

BEYONCE FOR H&M
Beyonce is now the new face for H&M and I cannot be anymore supportive. I love Queen B, but I love all her projects and partnerships even more. She is a strong woman who has become a good role model, which explains why H&M chose a great figure to feature their clothes.
Beyonce’s new song, Bow Down, was also released recently, so it is great publicity for her music as well. Considering her image, H&M will be perceived in a positive light and may have increase in sales. Personally, I think Beyonce can do more since she has such a powerful reputation and follow group. In a way, I feel like she is doing H&M a favor by endorsing the summer campaign, but she is obviously also receiving benefits from the partnership.
When fashion brands and retailers partner up with celebrities, both parties gain exposure and publicity, which results in a win-win situation. I don’t mind seeing Beyonce in H&M ads since I absolutely love her and I have no doubt that H&M made a great decision by choosing her.

If you bleed fashion, you most likely worship Anna Wintour. She is the Editor in Chief of Vogue magazine and has a powerful force in the fashion industry. Her vision and guidance for Vogue has allowed her to become a recognizable fashion idol and leader. Recently, Anna Wintour has been appointed to become the Artistic Director for Condé Nast and I can’t help, but wonder what can’t this woman do?
It is already an honor to hold the title of Editor in Chief of Vogue, but Wintour is now rising to another level by becoming the Artistic Director for Condé Nast although I am not sure what that new job position entails. I suppose it’s managing and overseeing the other magazines of Condé Nast including Lucky, Allure, Glamour, W, GQ, etc. But the line gets blurry when we talk about the roles of the editors in chief of those magazines and Wintour’s new title.
Either way, I am confident that Anna Wintour will do a phenomenon job with her new role because it is apparent that she has made Vogue into what it is today. With her many years of experience and vision, I believe that she is the perfect choice for being the Artistic Director for Condé Nast. She is a woman that needs to be challenged and this new opportunity will do just that.

Rihanna for River Island
I was in London not too long ago and I remember roaming around Piccadilly Circus and Oxford Circus where I found myself doing some intense shopping. River Island, a london based retail store, caught my attention because the clothing were bold and edgy yet could be dressed sophistically and simply. Interestingly enough, Rihanna has launched her own line in River Island, which I think is appropriate since her style mirrors that of the london brand.
It is no secret that Rihanna has a strong personality which is reflected by her social image and presence. Her fashion line, which was debuted for the store in London on March 4, 2013, consisted of classy and simple clothing. I think it’s a great way to launch her line because many people can wear her pieces since they are not too extreme or too fierce, which is how she normally dresses. The artist also has a great following and support system, which is why I believe her line will be successful. I can see River Island expanding to other countries since they are gaining publicity through the singer herself.
The partnership between a celebrity and a store has many benefits, since both parties are gaining something from it. Rihanna is gaining publicity for her line especially since it is in a London brand and River Island is gaining publicity since they are now associated with Rihanna.
If there were anybody who I think would fit well with River Island, it would be Rihanna and I support her collection because after all she IS Rihanna. This fierce fashion artist will find success in whatever her passion and goals are and I don’t think many people can disagree.

Millions of people tuned in to watch the Oscars 2013 last night. It was a huge event for Hollywood as actresses and stars gathered together to celebrate the world of film making. Considering the amounts of people who showed up to the event as well as the rest of the world watching it live on television, brands tried to gain publicity through social media during the Oscars. And who can blame them? It’s the perfect way to get attention since so many people are glued to both the screen and their phones when watching television. And nowadays, everybody has something to say and it seems as though people tweet their stream of consciousness while watching such a huge event like the Oscars.
Hyundai Motor America specifically has done a great job in engaging with its publics about the Oscars and its cars. The brand used Facebook as a tool to interact with people by asking questions such as ”Which Hyundai Should host Hollywood’s biggest night?” and “Which Hyundai would you arrive in for your walk down the red carpet?” By strategically using the Oscars as a conversation started, Hyundai Motor America is also able to get the audience to think about the company and the cars when answering the questions. As a result, it proves to a be great way to create a two way communication and feedback going especially with a popular topic that many people are interested in.
Other people, companies and brands have also tweeted about the Oscars such as Ellen Degeneres, who is the spokesperson for JCPenny, Charmin, Visa, American Express, Special K etc. All of their tweets were about the companies themselves yet they also incorporated what was going on at the Oscars to make the connection clear for their followers.
Bottom line: Be smart about audience engagement! Use events that can promote your brand through Twitter and thank the Oscars for giving your companies free publicity.

BURBERRY PRORSUM FALL 2013
I fell in love with the Fall 2013 collection of Burberry Prorsum! During London Fashion Week, many of the looks and designs were exceptional, but Burberry stood out to me the most. The sophisticated, bold coats and color scheme of red, brown, white and black made the looks consistent with one another. The models also gave an elegant, but fearless vibe when walking down the runway. They seemed to feel comfortable and strong in the clothes they were wearing and that spoke to me.
Considering that these looks are for the Fall, I think Burberry did a great job with staying true to the brand and season, but also putting its own touch to each look. In addition, the clothing are simple and plain, but with a fashion edge that makes one stands out from the crowd. I was impressed and pleased with all of Buberry Prorsum’s Fall 2013 looks.
If you haven’t already, take a look at the runway video from the show and let me know what you think!
